Jordan F’s ‘Need You’ is a nu-disco joyride. Taken from his latest album Memory Collision and featuring Sydney based artist Fluir, it blends the gated beats of Jordan F with Fluir’s vocal coo. The result is magnetic.
While Jordan F is more at home creating moody, beat-heavy synthwave on tracks like ‘Take Flight’ or the 2018 album Oblivion, Memory Collision is a collection of fun, buoyant synth music.
‘Need You’ is the crown jewel, four minutes of pure airtight synthpop. It’s a perfect blend of the synth bass and arpeggios characteristic of synthwave with flourishes of disco and Fluir’s own Goldfrapp-esque vocal soul.

The progression is simple but beautifully effective, and the escalation through the chorus is genius, percolating around an audacious synth harmony and Fluir’s fluttering, airy vocals.
Jordan F had this to say about the song:
“Need You was one of the first songs I wrote for the album nearly 2 years ago. At the time I was more influenced by nu-disco sounds, bass grooves, big brassy pads and guitar. For the vocals I hit up Fluir who had just moved to Sydney. She took the instrumental and took it to the next level with her extensive layering and airy vocals. The track set the scene for the new record and helped diversify my sound across the 80’s revival landscape.”
