Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that is great or not great depending on your situation, like how Christmas sucks if no one actually likes you, but not like Easter which is basically just eating creme eggs and we can all agree that’s a good tradition.
For all you lovelorn singletons out there, Desire’s New Order cover has your back.
As a single from legendary indie label Italians Do It Better, all the hallmarks are here: meticulously hair-fine production, sad synthesizers and a bittersweet Italo-disco gloom. Desire’s Megan Louise brings her perky voice, inlaid with touches of wit as well as irony. Her accompanying message for release was simply “Love is messy, but it’s worth it. Happy Valentine’s Day!“. I couldn’t agree more.
It’s a beautiful treatment of the song, and this being Desire, they even manage to sneak in an ode to the iconic wonky drum pattern of ‘Blue Monday’ (3.30 people). The alternate takes are all brilliant as well. The perfect cure for any Valentine’s hangovers out there.
