Wolf Alice have teamed up with pop innovator Charli XCX and LA duo Post Precious for a new remix of their 2017 track ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’. The reworked track features XCX on robotic lead vocals, her love of heavy autotune finding an unlikely home on the daydreamy Brit-rock single.
While Wolf Alice and Charli XCX may seem like an unusual pairing, both acts are at the forefront of their respective genres, pushing them into new, exciting directions. XCX has long been a fan of the London trio, calling ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ one of her favourite tracks of 2017 and performing a solo cover for Triple J’s Like A Version Series just last month (see below). Her new remix layers electronic vocal distortion over a softened, slowed-down backdrop, blending in Ellie Rowsell’s original vocals for the chorus.
Though its execution is very different from the heady, breathless original, it encapsulates the same feeling of dizzying teenage love, unravelling in meandering percussion patterns and drawn-out echoes. ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ felt like a track that needed no meddling, but in typical Charlie style, XCX shows us a different side to the song, bringing out a lonely, haunting quality we didn’t know was there.
