Lewis Capaldi may be stepping into well-worn shoes with the doomy folk of latest track ‘Fade’. However on his third song, he exhibits more personality and conviction than ever before.
‘Fade’ has the pensive tone and clammy pallor of Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’, and though it can’t match the song in melody, Lewis has a more compelling voice. At such a young age (only just 21) Lewis sings with the croaky, worn voice of a much older man. The youthful buoyancy of the writing rubs well against the resigned, pained delivery.
Lewis Capaldi is becoming one of the slow-burn breakouts of the year and we will be keeping a close eye on him as further tunes reach us.
