For people who like popular music – or ‘pop music’ as it is oft known – there are few musicians as consistently good as Carly Rae Jepsen. Her blend of bubblegum pop and modern, slick production has garnered her widespread acclaim and seen her hailed as the new Kylie. But you already knew that. What you might not know is that a new track titled ‘Cut To The Feeling’ has hit the Internet in full for the first time…
Eager Jeppo fans might have heard a snippet of ‘Cut To The Feeling’ in a trailer for the animated film ‘Ballerina’ which has been online since around February, but this is the first time the high quality version has been available in full.
I could tell you that ‘Cut To The Feeling’ is immaculately produced, that the hook is immediately catchy, that this is a sophisticated – but fun – pop song that belongs on dance floors in every gay bar across the land, but this is Carly Rae Jepsen, and you don’t need me to tell you these things to know they’re true.
‘Cut To The Feeling’ would have fit beautifully on Emotion or at least the collection of off-cuts that followed, so it’s a mystery why it’s taken so long for it to see the light of day. Presumably Jepsen thought lending her track to a big budget animated flick might get it a bit of promo, a Golden Globe nod even, but this wasn’t to be. But what the track’s leak does prove is that Jeppo wasn’t lying when she said she was sitting on a treasure trove of recorded songs, and judging by the standard of ‘Cut To The Feeling’, they certainly don’t belong on the cutting room floor.
